Sonny & His Rhinestone Sunsets

San Francisco CA

Sonny Smith’s (of Sonny & The Sunsets) dad was a banjo player and his uncle played fiddle. His parents and friends played old time music around the house growing up. “My dad played banjo and his friends would come over and play fiddle and mandolin. But I would go listen to AC/DC.” However, country strains must of sank in. With his first country record Longtime Companion, the band emerged with sounds akin to Gene Clark, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Townes Van Zandt, and the countrier side of the Kinks.

We are truly blessed to have this special performance here again at OffBeat and we put it in the category of “not to be missed”.
